Support for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students

Objectives:

Facilitating non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students’ adaptation to the local education system

Promoting the mastery of the Chinese language
Aiding NCS students’ integration into the community

Measures:

Home-school Cooperation

Translated school notices to facilitate effective home-school communication;
Regular home-school communication via school app and meeting

Learning support

Daily reading session to build up students’ reading habits and expand students’ vocabulary bank in Chinese;
Assistance from support teacher during lessons;
After-school tutorials to solve daily learning problems;
Tutorials during long holidays to ensure students have regular input and practice of the Chinese language.

Integration into the community

Outings to introduce the community and the society to students and allow students experience Chinese customs and culture;
Talks and activities that promote racial integration.

Whole-person development

Chances for students to participate in extra-curricular activities to show and develop their talents.

We also get support from the Education Bureau and other tertiary institutions on teachers’ training and introducing effective methods for teaching the NCS students.
